Helping Preserve the Voices of Farhud Survivors Before They Are Lost
The Farhud Project is dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing the firsthand testimonies of survivors of the Farhud — the devastating anti-Jewish pogrom that took place in Iraq in June 1941. Today, we are in a race against time.
With each passing year, the generation that witnessed these events grows smaller. Every testimony left unrecorded is a voice, a memory, and a piece of history that may be lost forever.
Our mission is to create the world's leading digital archive of Farhud survivor testimonies, photographs, documents, and family records, ensuring that these stories are preserved for future generations.
Why This Matters
The Farhud marked a turning point in the history of Iraqi Jewry and ultimately contributed to the end of a Jewish community that had flourished in Mesopotamia for more than 2,500 years. Yet despite its significance, the Farhud remains one of the least-known chapters of Jewish history.
Survivors' testimonies provide invaluable insight into:
-
Jewish life in Iraq before the Farhud
-
The events of 1-2 June 1941
-
The impact on families and communities
-
The exodus of Jews from Iraq
-
Lessons for future generations
These stories deserve to be preserved with dignity, accuracy, and care.
How You Can Help
Your support will enable us to record survivor interviews, digitize photographs and documents, expand the archive, and ensure these stories reach audiences around the world.
Every contribution, regardless of size, helps preserve an irreplaceable part of history. As a token of our gratitude, all donors will be acknowledged in the project's end credits.
Together, we can ensure that the voices of Farhud survivors are never forgotten.
