About The Farhud Project
The Farhud Project was launched by film maker David Kahtan to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the Farhud (1-2 June 1941) with an urgent mission; to preserve the voices of those who lived through those two days.
Through the collection of first-hand testimonies, archival materials, photographs, and historical records, the project is documenting a pivotal chapter in Jewish history. These accounts not only bear witness to the violence and persecution endured by Iraq's Jewish community but also preserve the rich heritage, resilience, and contributions of a community that flourished for more than 2,500 years.
The testimonies and historical resources gathered by the Farhud Project serve as an important educational tool, helping future generations understand the Farhud and its significance within both Jewish and Middle Eastern history. They strengthen Jewish identity, foster historical awareness, and provide an enduring resource in the fight against denial, distortion, and historical amnesia.
